Men’s Golf in 19th in Provo

Stocker tied for 62nd at four-over

PROVO, Utah — The Gonzaga men's golf team is in 19th place after the first and second rounds at the Ping Cougar Classic at the Riverside Country Club hosted by BYU.

Zach Stocker leads the Bulldogs after the first two rounds tied for 62nd at four-over (148). The junior leads the team in pars made at 23.

Brentt Salas is tied for 81st at 151 (+7), while Charlie Magruder is tied for 88th at 152 (+8).

Second round play was halted for some of the teams due to darkness.

The third round begins tomorrow morning at 8:15 Pacific Time. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.

Gonzaga Head Coach Robert Gray

We played decently the first round, posting our third lowest round of the season with an even par, 288. The greens were a little firm in the morning but definitely got firmer in the afternoon. Despite the firmer greens in the second round, the top half of the field was only one shot higher than the top half of the field of the first round.

Our second round was a 180 from the first. We posted our highest round of the year by eight shots with a 316. The course didn't play much harder based on the field scores but we really struggled with ball striking and short game.

Another round tomorrow to finish up the way we started the day.
