SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team defeated visiting Santa Clara 4-1 Friday afternoon inside the Steven's Center.
 
The Bulldogs took an early lead in the match, winning two of the three courts in doubles. Court two was first to finish with a clean sweep 6-0 from Kate Ketels and Haruna Tsuruta. Adrianna Sosnowska and Hannah Jones defeated Katherine Petty and Finley Kalinic 6-1 on court one to get the Zags a 1-0 advantage going into singles.
 
Jenna Sloan was first to finish for Gonzaga on court six, defeating Varya Zlotnik 6-3, 6-2.
 
"I was really happy with how our team competed today," said Sloan. "We loved being back home and are ready to keep it rolling in the next matches."
 
Hannah Jones finished minutes after Sloan winning 6-2, 6-2 on court five against Santa Clara's Guilia Hayer. On court one, Broncos' Jenna Marie Gordon won 7-5, 6-4 against Kate Ketels, giving Santa Clara its only point of the match. Cate Broerman was able to clinch the match winning in her third set. She swept her first set 6-0 but fell 1-6 in the second. She was able to come back 6-3 in her third set to win her court and the match for the Bulldogs.
 
"We have worked really hard this past week coming off a tough loss so today was a great team win for the Zags," said Sloan.
 
The teams next match is Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. against San Francisco inside the Steven's Center.
