EUGENE, Ore. – The Gonzaga women's team had a battle against Cal Poly this afternoon, but fell 4-3 in the neutral site matchup.

In singles, junior Cate Broerman won in the No. 1 spot by defeating Kim Bhunu in straight-sets, 6-4, 7-5. Frederikke Svarre competed in the second spot and had a battle against Emily Ackerman.

Svarre ended up on top with a three-set victory, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-1. Jenna Sloan rounded out the singles victories with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Delanie Dunkle in the No. 4 position.

In the No. 3 spot, Kianna Oda also had another tight match with a three-set battle. In the first set, she fell 1-6, but came back to win the second, 7-5. In the final set, she fell 1-6 to Melissa Lamette.

In the fifth spot, Tiegan Aitken fell 5-7, 4-6 against Peyton Dunkle. Freshman Caroline Wernli rounded out singles competition with a 1-6, 1-6, loss to Shreya Ravilla in the No. 6 spot.

In doubles, Aitken and Sloan teamed up to compete in the No. 3 spot and won 6-0 over Eliza Bates and Peyton Dunkle.

Broerman and Oda competed in the first spot and fell 4-6 against Ackerman and Bhunu. Wernlie and Svarre competed in the No. 2 doubles position and also fell 4-6 against Delanie Dunkle and Lamette.

Up Next: The Zags will play at home on Friday, Feb. 4, against Montana State. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
