SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's rowing team opened up the fall season on the Spokane River this morning and found success against Washington State University.
"First, the weather and water was awesome," head coach
Dan Gehn said. "Second, the team did a great job of taking what we have been working on in practice and applying it to a race situation. Top to bottom, it was very pleasing to watch."
In the first varsity eight race, the 1V8 boat for the Zags took first with a time of 15:40. Washington State's 1V8 crew placed second with a 15:59 time. There were three more boats for the Zags in the race with the 2V8 finishing third (16:08), the 3V8 placing fifth (17:10) and the NV8 placing sixth (18:24).Â
The next race of the day was the men's collegiate four race as GU placed first with a time of 17:53, ahead of WSU's 18:37 time. Two other boats for Gonzaga also competed in the race with the 2V4 taking second (17:57), the 3V4 placing third (18:54).
In the second varsity eight race, the Zags had two boats compete with the 3V/N8 'A' boat taking second with a time of 18:10. The 3V/N8 'B' crew placed fourth with a finishing time of 18:26.
Up Next: The Bulldogs travel to Colton, Wash., next Saturday, Oct. 22, to compete against Washington State again.Â
