SPOKANE, Wash. -- Earlier today, the Gonzaga women's tennis team continued their participation in the Gonzaga Invitational. The Zags will close out their performance in the tournament tomorrow, as the action begins at 9 a.m.
Gonzaga opened the day by competing in two Blue doubles Quarterfinals matches. Gonzaga's Carolina Wernli and Kianna Oda earned a dominant 6-2 victory over Idaho's Rachelle Starreveld and Lena Beckx. Later on, Gonzaga's Rose Hayes and Maria Frampton advanced to the Semifinals when Eastern Washington's Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic withdrew because of injury. Wanting to play an extra match before the Semifinals, Hayes and Frampton battled, but lost 6-4 against Eastern Washington's Sara Vasic and Nizetic.
In the Semifinals of the Blue Draw doubles competition, Gonzaga continued to battle against tough competition. Facing Eastern Washington's Taylor Anderson and Scout Matthews, Oda and Wernli advanced to the Blue doubles Championship when they clinched an excellent 6-3 victory. Frampton and Hayes closed out doubles competition for the Zags when they fell 6-4Â to Montana State's Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Mirte Van Baelen.
Moving to the Semifinals of the singles competition, Wernli claimed a spot in the Red singles Championship by earning a dominant 6-0, 6-4 victory over Montana's Maria Goheen. This is the first time in Wernli's career that she will make both the singles and doubles Championship game of the Gonzaga Invitational tournament.
In the Blue singles Semifinals, Oda earned a place in tomorrow's Championship match when she defeated Garcia-Reboredo 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets. For Hayes, she battled, but lost her Semifinals match against Portland State's Mariya Ponomareva by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Even with today's singles loss, Hayes had an excellent opening weekend with the Zags, as she earned a 3-1 record in official matches.
Today's action for the Zags concluded with a competitive singles match for Frampton. Facing Montana's Ivayla Mitkova in the White Consolation singles Semifinals, Frampton lost 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets.

The Gonzaga women's tennis team will complete their participation in the Gonzaga Invitation tomorrow morning, opening with Oda and Wernli facing Montana State's Mirte Van Baelen and Marta Garcia-Reboredo in the Blue doubles Championship at 9 am.
In the Red singles Championship, Wernli will look to finish the tournament undefeated in singles matches when she faces Montana State's Mirte Van Baelen. Later in the day, Oda will face Ponomareva in the Blue singles Championship.
