SPOKANE, Wash – The Gonzaga women's basketball team extended its seven-game winning streak with a 79-38 victory over Pacific.
The Tigers' 38 points was a season-low for the team. Gonzaga has an average margin of victory of 20.4 points in the WCC to stay a perfect 8-0 in the conference.
Four Zags scored in double figures with junior Kayleigh Truong recording a team-high 12 points. Senior Abby O'Connor, junior Kaylynne Truong and redshirt sophomore Eliza Hollingsworth all notched 10 points of their own.
GU continued its domination on the boards and outrebounded the Tigers 40-30 with senior Melody Kempton leading the way with seven.
Defensively, Gonzaga forced 24 turnovers and didn't allow any three-pointers to be made by Pacific as the Tigers went 0-for-18 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs had the lead for the whole game as they held Pacific to a 25.5 shooting percentage, Offensively, the Zags shot at a 51.1 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line.
In the opening quarter Gonzaga took the early lead. Kayleigh Truong led the Zags with six points as she went 2-for-2 from the field and from the free throw line. Kempton was right behind her with five points and four rebounds.
After the first ten minutes, GU led 24-20 and was outrebounding the Tigers, 19-14.
In the second quarter, the Zags went on an 18-1 run in the final seven minutes. O'Connor scored a team-high eight points and grabbed an offensive rebound. Redshirt senior Anamaria Virjoghe led the Zags in boards with three in her six minutes of play.
Defensively, the Bulldogs forced nine turnovers and forced two steals, one from Virjoghe and another from freshman Maud Huijbens.
At the half GU took a 43-20 lead as Kayleigh Truong led Gonzaga with nine points and two assists. O'Connor was the next highest scorer with nine points and Kempton led the team with four rebounds.
Coming out of the locker rooms, GU held Pacific to only five points in the third quarter to maintain its lead. Kaylynne Truong scored five points after going a perfect 2-for-2 from the field.
In the final quarter, Gonzaga forced six more turnovers and freshman Bree Salenbien led the team with five points. Overall, the team shot at 62.5 percent from the field during the final ten minutes of action.
The Zags had 40 points come off the bench, led by sophomore Yvonne Ejim with eight. The offense was also balanced as the team scored 26 points from inside the paint and also recorded 10 three-pointers.
Records: The Bulldogs move to 17-4 and 8-0 in the West Coast Conference. Pacific falls to 5-14 and 2-6 in the conference. GU improves to 17-5 against the Tigers as head coach Lisa Fortier is now 13-3 overall versus Pacific.
