Box Score SPOKANE, Wash — The Gonzaga women's tennis team had a successful season opener with a 5-1 win over Montana State.
The Zags came out strong and claimed the doubles point.
Cate Broerman and
Adrianna Sosnowska played at the No. 1 spot and defeated Mirte van Baelen and M. Garcia-Reboredo, 6-0, as the duo finished first for GU.
Frederikke Svarre and
Caroline Wernli were the next team off the court after defeating Jazmin Lerman and Maria Villarejo, 6-4, on the third court.
Going into singles with the 1-0 advantage, Svarre continued the success for the Zags as she won 6-1, 6-3, over Andrea Cuquerella in the No. 3 spot.
Tiegan Aitken recorded the next win for GU with a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Maria Villarejo on the No. 5 court.
Kianna Oda clinched the match for Gonzaga with a 6-2, 6-2, win over JJ Chen in the No. 4 position. On the second court, Sosnowska had a three-set battle with Mirte van Baelen and fell 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (6).
Caroline Wernli also competed in the sixth spot, but her match went unfinished at 6-3, 4-5.
Broerman closed out the match for the Zags with a battle in the No. 1 spot. In the first set, she won 7-6 (5). She then fell in the second set, 6-7 (5). In the tiebreaker, she won 10-8, to clinch the victory.
