RESULTS
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Gonzaga women's rowing team wrapped up competition at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday.Â
"It was a great weekend, and the squad here represented our program really well," head coach Andrew Derrick said. "Conditions were tough, and I would have loved the opportunity to get some more comparable times from race to race, lane to lane, but ultimately the team did a phenomenal job of adapting to the situation, racing hard, and trying to put their bow in front. I am very, very proud of them."Â
The Varsity Eight boat finished in second place out of seven boats in their final with a time of 06:50.269, being only behind Stanford and being ahead of Oklahoma. The boat also finished nearly 13 seconds ahead of conference opponent San Diego.Â
The Varsity Four boat was in a very close race and took sixth place out of seven boats with a time of 08:02.917, just right behind Oklahoma in a photo finish and finished ahead of No. 16 UCLA. Â
From the outside lane, the Second Varsity Eight boat took seventh place out of eight boats with a time of 07:07.152. The boat finished ahead of Oklahoma and just 1.1 seconds behind No. 16 UCLA.Â
In the last race of the day, the 2V4 boat finished first with a time of 7:25.296, good for 19 seconds ahead of WCC rival San Diego. Finishing behind San Diego were crews from Oklahoma and UC San Diego.Â
Up Next: Gonzaga will compete against Washington State in Spokane on April 2nd. The regatta includes Novice and 4V races. The Zags then host Seattle University on April 9 for Senior Day and Alumni Weekend.
