SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga women's rowing team swept Seattle University by finishing first in all three races at the Johnson Family Boathouse.

"I was really happy with how the team, top to bottom," head coach Andrew Derrick said. "They executed some good racing in adverse conditions after a very challenging week of practice."

In the varsity eight race, GU's 1V8 boat finished first with a time of 6:46.8. The 2V8 crew finished right behind them in second place with a finishing time of 7:01.6. Seattle University took third and fourth place with its 1V8 finishing in 7:24.5 and 2V8 completing in 7:41.1.

In the varsity four competition, the 1V4 boat finished in 7:51.1, with the 3V4 finishing in second with a finishing time of 8:07.0. The 2V4 crew finished in 8:16.1 and placed third overall. Seattle finished in fourth with a time of 8:55.9.

The regatta also featured an open four race, where the GU's 4A boat finished first with a time of 8:18.2. Seattle finished second in 8:35.3 as the Zags also placed third in a time of 8:36.8 with the 4B crew.

After the race concluded, the Zags honored nine seniors in their last home regatta of the season.

"It was bitter-sweet to honor our nine seniors today as well," Derrick said. "We are so proud of them and will miss them tremendously, but so glad our time together is not quite over yet as we have a lot of work yet to do this season still!"
