SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced the 2021-22 men's golf Academic All-Conference team Thursday. Gonzaga's Holden Backes, Charlie Magruder and Matthew Ruel were named first team.
 
Backes earned the honor for the second straight season, after being named honorable mention in 2019 and 2020. Magruder was honorable mention Academic All-WCC the previous three seasons, while Ruel was named Academic All-WCC First Team in 2020 and honorable mention in 2021 and 2019.
 
Backes and Magruder had perfect 4.00 grade point averages as a Business Administration majors. Ruel has a 4.00 GPA while working on his Sport and Athletic Administration Master's degree.
 
Jace Minni and Zach Stocker both were tabbed Academic All-Conference honorable mention this season. Stocker was First Team in 2020 and honorable mention in 2021.
 
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
