SAN MATEO, Calif. – Five Gonzaga women's tennis players were selected West Coast Conference All-Academic as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. Two Zags—
Tiegan Aitken and Jenna Sloan—were selected WCC All-Academic First Team while
Cate Broerman, Kianna Oda and Adrianna Sosnowska picked up Honorable Mention honors.
Aitken was a key role for the Zags this season as she finished with the highest winning percentage on the Gonzaga women's tennis team in singles competition, with a .632 winning percentage. The sophomore went 12-7 in singles, including a record of 8-4 when performing in the No. 5 spot.
Sloan earns her second-straight WCC Academic honor as she finished the year with an 8-8 record in singles matches, including a 3-1 record when performing on court four. The junior ended the year with a winning doubles record, as she finished the year 9-8. Sloan earned an impressive court three record of 7-2 in doubles, with the majority of those wins coming when paired with
Frederikke Svarre.
This marks the second-straight year for both Broerman and Sosnowska to pick up All-Academic honors as they both were honored last year. This is Oda's first nod in the WCC academic awards.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team and in at least their second year at their school.
