SPOKANE, Wash. --  The fall season for the Gonzaga women's tennis team opened today with the Gonzaga Hidden Duel tournament. This is the first of six total tournaments the Zags will participate in this fall.
 
Today's Hidden Duel tournament opened with a dominant singles competition for the Zags. On court one, Gonzaga senior Cate Broerman earned a 6-2, 6-2 singles victory over Portland's Rimona Rouf. The Zags dominance continued when junior Tiegan Aitken defeated Portland's Aleksandra Dimitruevic 6-1, 6-4 on court four. In the No. 3 spot, Gonzaga senior Jenna Sloan claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Portland's Likhitha Kalava.
 
Continuing the singles competition,gonzaga sophomore Caroline Wernli fell to Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez 6-3, 7-5 on court five. Battling in the No.6 spot, Portland's Rose Watanabe earned a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Gonzaga senior Maria Frampton. In the final singles match of the day for the Zags, Portland's Meagan Pearson clinched a 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Gonzaga senior Adrianna Sosnowska
 
Finishing the day with the doubles competition, Frampton and Wernli earned a dominant 6-2 win over New Mexico State's Maud Vandeputte and Maria Sodre on court three. In similar fashion, Aitken and Sloan defeated New Mexico's Leonie Hoppe and Sarah O'Connor 6-2 in the No.2 spot. In the final match of the day for the Zags, Broerman and Sosnowska defeated New Mexico's Ke Syuan and Hsuan Huang 6-2 on court one.

The Gonzaga women's tennis team continue the Gonzaga Hidden Duel tournament tomorrow at 10 a.m. Before resuming the tournament, Gonzaga will honor women's tennis legend and Gonzaga graduate Sophia Whittle at 9:45 a.m. in the Stevens Center.
