SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team played their second game in a row at home and defeated North Florida, 83-55. This was the first meeting for the two teams in program history.
Yvonne Ejim and
Kayleigh Truong scored 20 points or more in the second-straight game as
Kayleigh Truong tied her career-high of 21 points and
Ejim scored 20.
Ejim also nearly had a double double with eight rebounds in 29 minutes of play.
Two other
Zags also scored in double figures, including
Brynna Maxwell and
Maud Huijbens, who both scored 12 points.
Huijbens went a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor.
Gonzaga (3-1) closed out the first quarter with an 8-0 run to take the 24-21 lead over North Florida (1-3).
Ejim had 10 points and grabbed two rebounds to lead the
Zags. GU forced five turnovers in the opening 10 minutes and
outrebounded the Ospreys, 10-7.
The
Zags outscored UNF 18-13 in the second quarter to take the 42-34 lead going into halftime. Maxwell led the Bulldogs with seven points as she went 3-for-4 from the floor. At the half, GU had scored 16 points off turnovers and 24 points inside the paint.
Gonzaga had an 8-0 run in the third quarter to take a commanding 54-39 lead.
Kayleigh Truong scored 11 points alone in the third as the Bulldogs outscored UNF 22-12. Defensively, GU held North Florida to a 38.5 shooting percentage and forced five more turnovers.
The
Zags kept up the offensive pressure in the fourth quarter and went on a 12-2 run in the final five minutes of play.
Kaylynne Truong and Maxwell both scored five points in the final quarter as the
Zags shot at 61.5 percent from the floor.
Overall, GU
outrebounded the Ospreys, 36-32, as Ejim led the team with eight. The
Zags held UNF to a 38 percent scoring effort and
Gonzaga shot at 54 percent. The Bulldogs also forced a total of 22 turnovers and scored 18 points off those miscues.
Gonzaga scored 42 points inside the paint and 18 points in transition.

Kayleigh Truong both scored 20 or more points.
Maud Huijbens tied her career-high of 12 points. Her last game with 12 was against Pepperdine in 2022.
