SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Gonzaga men's cross country Head Coach
Pat Tyson was named the West Coast Conference Men's Coach of the Year for the second-straight year, the league announced on Wednesday. It is the third nod for Tyson since the Spring 2020 season, with the latest honor coming just one month after the Zag men secured their first-ever WCC title on Oct. 28 in Malibu, Calif.
After the WCC Championships, the men stunned three ranked teams at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Nov. 10 to earn their fourth-straight NCAA Championships appearance and second-consecutive automatic qualifying bid, placing second as a team.
The conference recognized the WCC Men's and Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year and WCC Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year in a vote of each of the Conference's head coaches at the conclusion of the NCAA cross country seasons for all programs.
Tyson first won Coach of the Year honors following the spring 2020 season in which the GU men qualified for their first-ever team berth to nationals. Since then, the Bulldogs have only ascended on the national stage — the 2023 season marked their fourth-straight bid after a program-best 13th place finish in 2022.
