SPOKANE, Wash. — No. 11/12 Gonzaga men's basketball eased to a 96-58 season-opening victory over Lewis-Clark State Wednesday.
In his McCarthey Athletic Center debut, the Zags'
Graham Ike led all scorers with 24 points. The Wyoming transfer made 11 of 13 from the field, while grabbing seven rebounds.
Braden Huff added 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting for GU, with a game-high nine rebounds.
Nolan Hickman had 11 points, while
Ben Gregg chipped in 10.
Ryan Nembhard finished with 10 assists to one turnover. After committing four turnovers in the first half, the Zags had two in the second half.
The Bulldogs finished 48.7 percent from the field, while limiting the Warriors to 33.3 percent. GU outrebounded Lewis-Clark State 55-29. The Zags dominated inside, outscoring LCSC in the paint 64-18. GU made 15 of its 18 free throws.
Gonzaga led 10-0 at the 15:23 mark to open the game. LC State rallied to cut the score to 22-20 with 7:17 remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs answered with a 10-0 run and finished the half on another 10-0 run to lead 51-28 at the break.
The Zags led for the entirety of the game, and by as many as 40 points in the second half.
Gonzaga starts its regular season schedule against Yale in Spokane Nov. 10. The game will be available regionally on KHQ and ROOT Sports Northwest, and on ESPN Plus outside the region.
