EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Continuing their participation at the Michigan State Hidden Dual, the Gonzaga women's tennis team found moments of success in today's action.
Battling Michigan State in the doubles competition, Gonzaga's
Kianna Oda and
Emily Robertson clinched a 6-4 victory against Michigan State's Liisa Vehvilainen and Matilde Morais. Gonzaga's
Tiegan Aitken and
Ella Nielsen also faced Michigan State's Issey Purser and Nicole Conard, losing by a score of 6-0. Shortly after, Gonzaga's
Rose Hayes and
Lia Espinal lost 6-2 against Michigan State's Ria Bhakta and Marley Lambert. In the final doubles match of the day, Gonzaga's
Caroline Wernli paired with Toledo's Jone Ibanez, and lost 6-3 to Michigan State's Natalie Stasny and Makenna Martinez.
In the singles competition, Gonzaga earned multiple victories against a skilled Ball State squad. Facing Ball State's Elena Malykh, Oda lost a very competitive match, losing by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Later on, Hayes clinched a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ball State's Isabele Tanjuatco. Robinson also performed, losing to Ball State's Annika Planinsek by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Nielsen shined in her match against Ball State's Jacqueline Pearsall, earning a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory. In the final match of the day, Espinal claimed a 7-6, 6-2 win against Michigan State's Sarah Fazlagic.
