MTEN: Zags Fall to #37 UTSA, 4-3

The Bulldogs return home on March 24 for their first conference match against BYU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Gonzaga men's tennis team concluded their nonconference dual schedule with an away match against #37 University of Texas-San Antonio earlier today. Entering the match, UTSA had won their last nine matches, five of which were against teams ranked top #60 in the country.
 
In the doubles competition, UTSA jumped to an early lead when Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez earned a 6-2 court one win over Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth. Gonzaga tied the doubles competition when Leon Roider and Arthus de la Bassetiere defeated UTSA's Miguel Alonso and Tiago Torres by a score of 6-3 on court two. In the No.3 spot, Gonzaga clinched the doubles point when Tom Hann and Pablo Gomez Galvan claimed a 7-5 victory against UTSA's Jackson Ross and Garrett Skelly.
 
The match continued to be competitive as the singles competition began. On court two, Magadan tied the competition when he defeated Andersson by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Shortly after, UTSA's Danijal Muminovic earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Hann on court five. Gonzaga tied the competition when Bassetiere clinched a 7-5, 7-5 court three win over Rodriguez.
 
The remaining three singles matches were some of the closest matches of the season, as all three went into a third set. In the No.6 spot, Ross earned another team point for UTSA, defeating Gomez Galvan by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. On the brink of defeat, Gonzaga once again tied the competition when Hollingworth claimed a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 court four win over Skelly. In the final singles match of the day, UTSA clinched the team victory when Torres earned a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over Trkulja in the No.1 spot.
 
Up next: The Gonzaga men's tennis team return to Spokane following today's match, as they are scheduled to open conference play against BYU on March 24th at 3 pm. The Zags will also play San Diego the following day, March 25th at 1 pm, at the Stevens Center.

Records: For Gonzaga, their record on the year moves to 5-6 following today's loss. The win also improves the season record for UTSA to 12-4. This match marks the first time in program history that the Zags and the Roadrunners have played, making the historical record 0-1 in favor of UTSA.
