MTEN: Zags Fall to Pepperdine 4-1

Gonzaga hosts LMU tomorrow at the Stevens Center

SPOKANE, Wash. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga men's tennis team battled Pepperdine University in a conference dual match and fell 4-1.
 
Opening with an extremely competitive doubles competition, every match went into a tiebreaker. On court one, Pepperdine's Daniel De Jonge and Tim Zeitvogel earned a 7-5 victory over Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth. Shortly after, Pepperdine's Pietro Fellin and Linus Halldin picked up a 7-5 win against Gonzaga's Tom Hann and Pablo Gomez Galvan.
 
With the doubles point already clinched, the court two match between Gonzaga's Leon Roider and Arthus Bassetiere and Pepperdine's Maxi Homberg and Eero Vasa went unfinished, ending with a score of 6-6.
 
Moving to the singles competition, Pepperdine expanded their lead when De Jonge clinched a 6-0, 6-3 win over Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson on court two. The second completed match saw Roider battle, but drop his court six match against Halldin by a score of 6-3, 6-4. In the No.5 spot, Hann earned Gonzaga their only team point of the day when he defeated Pepperdine's Maxi Homberg by a score of 7-5, 7-5.
 
In the final singles match of the day, Pepperdine clinched the team victory when Zeitvogel picked up a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Trkulja in the No.1 spot. With the team victory already clinched by Pepperdine, all other singles matches went unfinished.
 
Up next: After today's match, the Zags will remain in Spokane, as they are scheduled to face Loyola Marymount on April 8 at 10 a.m. in the Stevens Center. Following tomorrow's match, Gonzaga will travel to California to play Saint Mary's on April 15 at 10 a.m., and Pacific on April 16 at 2 p.m.

Records: The season record for the Zags moves to 7-9 with today's loss. For Pepperdine, the win improves their record on the year to 13-7. The historical record between Gonzaga and Pepperdine also moves to 1-16 in favor of the Waves.
