COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– In their season-opening tournament, the Gonzaga men's golf team placed 15
th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational Tuesday.
The Zags finished 23-over (887) in the three-day event hosted by Air Force at Eisenhower Golf Course. GU was 12-over (300) in the final round and had its lowest round Sunday totaling a 292 (+4).
Daniel Nunez led the Bulldogs tying for 40
th at four-over (220). The senior started the tournament carding a 68 (-4). His first round featured an eagle, four birdies, and 11 pars. He followed that round with a 74 (+2) and a 78 (+6) in Round 3. Nunez finished four-under (4.67) on the course's four Par-5 holes.
Jace Minni and
Ethan Flynn tied for 55
th and 57
th. Minni was six-over (222), while Flynn was seven-over (223). Minni was one-over (73) in the second round and even (72) in the first round. He made three birdies and 12 pars Sunday. Flynn eagled the Par-5 11
th hole on the final day, to go along with two birdies and 13 pars. He finished the event carding a 70 (-2) in Round 3.
Guillermo Polo Bodart was nine-over (225) in the tournament, tying for 70
th. Bruce Chang tied for 104
th at 17-over (233).
Andrew Reinhardt played in the individual tournament and placed 22
nd at eight-over (224). He finished the tournament at even-par (72).
Northern Colorado's TJ Shehee won the individual tournament. In the Falcon Invitational, Colorado State's Christoph Bleier and Valparaiso's Caleb VanArragon each shot 203 (-13), with VanArragon winning on the first playoff hole.
Colorado State won the team title at 13-under (851). Wyoming was second at two-under (862).
Gonzaga returns to the Nick Watney Invitational hosted by Fresno State Sept. 25-26. The tournament at Kings River Country Club will be on Sept. 25-26. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.
