TUCSON, Ariz. – Top-seeded Matthew Hollingworth and Sasha Trkulja moved into Sunday's double final for Gonzaga men's tennis after winning their semifinal match in the Wilbur Draw at the Wildcat Invite Saturday.
Hollingworth and Trkulja defeated fourth-seeded Dominik Buzonics and Jakub Prachar of Northern Arizona, 6-4, in the semifinals. The Zag duo will face New Mexico's Aram Noroozian and Rafael AbdulSalam in Sunday morning's final at 8.
Gonzaga's Leon Roider and Pablo Gomez Galvan fell to Dominique Rolland and Eric Padgham of Arizona in the Wilma Draw semifnals, 6-4. Northern Arizona's Piotr Galus and Daniel Torres defeated GU's Tom Dunlop and Gus Krauel, 6-4, in the consolation bracket.
In singles play, top-seeded Trkulja advanced to Sunday's Blue bracket final after defeating UNLV's Anton Omberg 6-2, 6-3. Trkulja squares off with second-seeded Casper Christensen of Arizona in the final.
Hollingworth fell in the semifnals 6-4, 4-6 (4-10) to New Mexico's Noroozian. Hollingworth will play Piotr Sunday.
Roider was defeated in the Red bracket semifinal, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), by New Mexico's Arthur Bellegy. Roider closes the tournament against Maikel de Boes of Northern Arizona Sunday.
Gomez Galvan advanced to the final in the White bracket beating New Mexico's Ryoma Matsushita, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4. Gomez Galvan plays in Sunday's final against AbdulSalam.
In the Grey bracket, Dunlop fell in the semifinals to Northern Arizona's Lance Urlaub 6-0, 6-1. Dunlop's next opponent is Prachar Sunday.
Krauel is at 1-2 in pool play in the Black draw. He fell Saturday to Northern Arizona's Morgan Donovan 7-5, 6-4, and wraps up against Arizona's Eric Padgham Sunday.
