WBB Defeats Portland, 76-71

Four Zags scored in double figures

 PORTLAND, Ore. – Maud Huijbens had a career-night at Portland as the Zags pulled out the 76-71 win over the Pilots.

Huijbens led the Bulldogs with a career-best 19 points while also posting a double double with 12 rebounds. Tayla Dalton was the next leading scorer with 14 points, followed right behind by Yvonne Ejim's 13. Allie Turner rounded out double-digit scoring with 11 points.

The Zags went on a 10-0 run in the middle of the first half to gain the lead. GU outscored the Pilots in both quarters to take the 43-30 lead going into halftime.

Huijbens went a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor in the first half to lead the Bulldogs with 12 points. Dalton and Bree Salenbien were the next leading scorers with eight each. Salenbien also went a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

Gonzaga was also winning the rebounding battle at the half, 17-11. Ejim grabbed a team-high five rebounds while Turner also passed out four assists in the opening half.

Gonzaga shot an impressive 56.3% from the floor and made seven three-points after going 63.6% from beyond the arc. Portland was held to a shooting performance of 37.9% and had zero points from their bench while, GU had 18.

The Pilots fought back in the second half and tied the game with just under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Gonzaga never let Portland tie it again as the Zags closed out the game with a layup from Dalton and four free throws from Turner and Ejim.

Overall, Gonzaga outrebounded the Pilots 34-26 and held UP to an 18.8% three-point performance. Gonzaga shot 46.7% overall from the floor as Portland shot 42.6%. The Zags also shot 80% from the charity stripe after going 12-for-15.

GU forced 20 turnovers from Portland and scored 28 points from those miscues. Gonzaga's bench also outscored UP's, 24-2.

Notes: Ejim has scored double digits in 58-straight games. She has now scored 1,974 points in her career.

- Bree Salenbien and Tayla Dalton both had season-high performances with eight and 14 points, respectively.

- Ejim is now third all-time in rebounds with 946. She needs 38 more to pass Kay Koppelman's 983 rebounds set from 1987-91.

- This was GU's 32nd-straight regular season win over Portland.
