Yvonne Ejim Makes History in 64-48 Win over San Diego

Ejim becomes the first player in WCC history to reach 1,000 rebounds and 2,000 points

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs defeated San Diego for the second time this season, 64-48.

The Zags were led by Yvonne Ejim, who scored 25 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Claire O'Connor scored in double figures as well with 12 points after going 5-for-7 from the floor. Tayla Dalton also nearly had a double double herself with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs outscored San Diego in the first quarter, 21-12. Ejim had 11 points and O'Connor went 3-for-3 from the floor to score six points and grab three rebounds. The Zags shot an impressive 60% from the floor and held USD to 33.3%.

Gonzaga held the Toreros to 16 points in the second quarter as GU scored 19 points to take the 40-28 lead at halftime. At the half, Ejim had a team-high 15 points as Dalton led the team with five rebounds. The Bulldogs also held the edge on the rebound margin, 19-16.

In the second quarter, Ejim made history yet again by grabbing her 1,000th rebound. She became the first player in WCC and Gonzaga history to score 2,000 career points and record 1,000 rebounds.

Allie Turner paced the Zags in the third with five points and a rebound. GU extended its lead to 52-38 going into the fourth.

Gonzaga closed out the game in the fourth quarter and never allowed USD to take the lead the entire game. GU also outscored the Toreros in every quarter to secure its eighth-straight win.

Overall, Gonzaga shot 43.9% from the floor and held USD to 39.6%. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Toreros, 34-28.

Notes:
- Ejim has scored double digits in 64-straight games. She has now scored 2,128 points in her career. She needs 38 more points to become first all-time, ahead of Heather Bowman's 2,165 (2006-10).

- Ejim became the first player to reach 1,000 rebounds in Gonzaga history. She is also the first player in WCC history to reach 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds. She is one of just five active players to reach the milestones.

- With 25 points today, Ejim has scored at least 20 points in 15 games this season.
