WBB Pulls Out Win Over Pacific, 68-64

Both Turner and Ejim scored over 20 points

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs pulled out a gritty win over Pacific, 68-64, in the McCarthey Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Yvonne Ejim and Allie Turner both scored over 20 points for GU. Ejim had a team-high 23 points and led the team with 12 rebounds as well. Ejim was clutch in the final minutes to propel the Bulldogs to the win and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Turner went 6-for-7 from beyond the arc to score 22 points.

The Zags got things going right away by outscoring the Tigers 23-13 in the first quarter. Ejim scored 10 of those points as she went a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs also shot 50% from the field and from the three-point line.

The Tigers closed out the second quarter with an 8-0 run, but Gonzaga still held onto its lead at the half, 36-28. Two Bulldogs had double figures at halftime as Ejim had 15 and Turner had 10. Ejim also led GU in rebounds with five and the Bulldogs outrebounded UOP, 21-14. ­­­­­­­

Turner scored another nine points for Gonzaga in the third quarter, all from beyond the arc. GU went into the fourth quarter up, 51-49.

The Tigers went on tie the game in the fourth quarter, but the Zags outscored the Tigers 17-15 in the final 10 minutes to secure the win. Ejim scored eight of the final points and went perfect from the free-throw line to close out the game for the Zags.

Overall, GU shot 44.9% from the floor and 52.9% from beyond the arc. Gonzaga also won the rebounding battle, 38-33, with every player who entered the game recording a rebound.

Notes:
- Ejim has scored double digits in 65-straight games. She has now scored 2,151 points in her career. She needs 15 more points to become first all-time, ahead of Heather Bowman's 2,165 (2006-10).

- Turner scored over 20 points for the fourth time this season. She recorded six three pointers and grabbed four rebounds.

- With 23 points today, Ejim has scored at least 20 points in 16 games this season.

- Turner is the first true freshman to score over 20 points in multiple games since Heather Bowman.

- Ejim is the first player to reach 1,000 rebounds in Gonzaga history. She is also the first player in WCC history to reach 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds. She is one of just five active players to reach the milestones.
