Zag Cross Country to take on NCAA West Regional Championship Friday

SACRAMENTO- Gonzaga Cross Country will look to continue to make itself known as a force in the West when it takes on the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday Morning in Sacramento.

The Women's team will take on a 6k at 9am, while the Men's team will run in their first 10k on the season at approximately 10 am. Gonzaga Women's Cross Country is currently ranked 28th nationally by the USTFCCCA and fifth in the west region. The Bulldog Men's Cross Country team is ranked sixth in the west.

Results from every single regional championship will be huge for determining if the Zags get a bid to travel to Missouri for the NCAA National Championship. The top two teams in every region automatically get a bid to the national championship. The remaining fourteen bids are decided based on how many qualifying teams a program has beaten in previous head to head races earlier in the season. This means that the at-large bids will be selected based on the final standings of every team on the weekend, not based on running a single benchmark time. Each region will also send the four individual runners with the fastest personal time from Friday that were not part of a team that got a bid. The official NCAA Selection Show will be streamed on NCAA.com at 2pm on Saturday.

The Zags will look to continue their success on the 6k, as Logan Hofstee set the fourth fastest time in program history in her most recent race, taking second at the WCC Championships in 19:46.8. GU has not yet ran in a 10k this season, but Logan Schwartz will look to build on his strong previous result of fourth in the 8k WCC Championship with a time of 23:34.8. This run secured him WCC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year and the fifth fastest 8k in men's program history.

Gonzaga fans can find live results and pre-meet parking information for the West Regionals on GoZags.com and follow the ZagRunning social media channels to keep up with regional results and the outcome of the selection show.
