SAN DIEGO — Gonzaga Volleyball (14-15, 7-11 WCC) fell to the University of San Diego (25-4, 18-0 WCC) in four sets on Saturday, Winning the first set by score of 25-20 before dropping the next sets in 10-25, 7-25, 12-25.
The Zags established early control in the first set with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by
Sjakkie Donkers' five kills and two blocks.
Autumn Larson contributed two service aces, further extending the Zags' lead. Despite a late push from the opposition, GU secured the set 25-20.
San Diego dominated the second set, achieving a decisive 25-10 victory over the Bulldogs. San Diego hit an astonishing .611% in the second frame. The home team also dominated the third set, opening with a commanding 6-0 run, driven by Kennedy Osunsanmi's four kills and two service aces. The opposition closed the set at 25-7, capitalizing on a robust defensive effort with three blocks in the set.
The home team capitalized on a dominant serving performance to secure the fourth set 25-12 over the Bulldogs. San Diego had ten aces in the total match.
Donkers led the Bulldogs with 17 kills, while
Nia Damuni put up 25 assists.
Carina Zaldivar anchored the defense with a team-high 10 digs. Gonzaga finished the season with 14 wins, the best in a season since 2017.
