SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's basketball team hosted Saint Mary's on Thursday night and picked up their 20th win of the season by routing the Gaels, 60-53.
Three Bulldogs scored in doube figures, led by
Allie Turner's 16 points.
Yvonne Ejim had 12 points herself and
Maud Huijbens had 11.
Esther Little led GU in rebounds again as she grabbed 11.
The Zags went on an 8-0 run at the end of the first quarter to take the 12-6 lead. Turner's two three-pointers fueled the offense for GU.
Gonzaga outscored SMC in the second, 14-13, and had the lead at halftime, 26-19. GU forced 12 turnovers in the opening half and scored 16 points off those miscues.
Turner led the Bulldogs in scoring with nine points after going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Little grabbed a team-high four rebounds as GU outrebounded the Gaels, 16-10, in the first half.
The Zags went on a 7-0 run to open the second half with five of those points coming from
Tayla Dalton alone.
Turner and Huijbens had some clutch plays in the final 10 minutes to combine for 12 points to keep Saint Mary's out of reach.
Gonzaga never gave up its lead in the second half to secure its 14th-straight win. Overall, GU outrebounded Saint Mary's 38-24 and forced 14 turnovers from the Gaels.
The Bulldogs shot 50% from beyond the arc as Turner scored four of them. Gonzaga also held Saint Mary's to 11.1% from the three and only one three-pointer allowed.
