SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's rowing raced against nationally ranked Oregon State and UC San Diego on Silver Lake Saturday morning, posting competitive showings across five varsity eight events.
"Great day and water for racing!" head coach Dan Gehn said. "We knew it would be tight in the V8 and it was. All 3 boats were in touch all the way down the course. We had a great middle 1000 and attacked OSU in the last 500 but they did a good job of holding us off. Good lead up racing for MPSF Championships in three weeks."
The Varsity 8+ headlined the day, with Gonzaga pushing Oregon State to the finish line. The Zags placed second with a time of 5:48.98, less than two seconds behind Oregon State (5:47.07) and ahead of UC San Diego (5:52.67) in a tightly contested race.
Gonzaga's Second Varsity 8+ also showed solid speed, crossing in 5:59.90, trailing Oregon State's 5:54.40.
In the later events, Gonzaga's depth was tested against OSU's strong squads. The Bulldogs clocked 6:32.48 in the Third Varsity 8+, 6:43.57 in the Fourth Varsity 8+, and 6:42.51 in the Fifth Varsity 8+, fighting hard despite falling to the Beavers in each race.

The Bulldogs race again next weekend, May 3, at the Opening Day Regatta in Seattle. The full crew will race at the MPSF Championships in California on May 17 and 18.
