COOPER RIVER, N.J. – Gonzaga Men's Rowing began competition at the 2025 IRA National Championships on Friday morning on the Cooper River, taking on some of the nation's top programs in the opening heats.
The Bulldogs' Varsity 8 boat raced in Heat 2 and posted a time of 5:56.990, finishing sixth against a strong field that included Washington, Northeastern, and Stanford. Washington led the heat with a time of 5:34.070.
Later in the morning, the Second Varsity 8 crew also finished sixth in its heat with a time of 6:06.840, competing alongside California, Yale, and Stanford. Cal won the heat in 5:40.360.
Both Gonzaga boats will return to the water Saturday for the Semifinal C/D heats. The first race is at 6:20 a.m. Pacific Time for the Varsity 8 boat. The 2V8 will compete at 6:36 a.m.
