TERRE HAUTE, Indiana - Gonzaga Baseball (6-11) secured their second 7-4 victory over Indiana State (7-11) in as many days on Saturday.
The Zags held the Sycamores to just four hits on the afternoon. Gonzaga's offense clicked for twelve hits, extending GU's streak to seven straight games of outhitting their opponent.
Indiana State got on the board first with a two RBI single in the bottom of the first. The GU offense responded with three runs in the third, with three singles and two sacrifice flies combining to give Gonzaga the lead. Indiana State tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch.
The seventh inning saw the Zags regain the lead when
Mikey Bell walked and Young doubled to put two men in scoring position. Another pair of sacrifice flies scored both men, giving the Zags a 5-3 lead. Indiana State managed to score one run in the bottom half of the frame, narrowing the gap to 5-4. It was a group effort to score runs today, as seven different Bulldogs scored a run today.
Finbar O'Brien held Indiana State to just one run in his relief outing, pitching 4.2 innings and picking up the win after only allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four batters. He was incredibly efficient, needing just 57 pitches to close out the win across a very long relief apperance.
Tommy Eisenstat added two more insurance runs for the Zags in the top of the ninth, drilling a home run to centerfield to extend the lead. Eisenstat finished the game with a season high four RBIs.
The Zags will look to sweep the series with the Sycamores on Sunday. First pitch is set for 9am pacific time. The game will be available on ESPN+.
