March 14, 2001

Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. - - Brian Barden's bases loaded RBI single with no outs in the bottom of the ninth helped guide Oregon State (13-9) to a 10-9 victory over Gonzaga (7-9) on Wednesday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

The game mirrored Tuesday's contest in which both teams had an on-slaught of runs during several innings. The Zags opened the scoring barrage with five runs in the third as Eric Rodland, Kevin Cave and Nate Gold all contributed RBI doubles.

After Gonzaga pushed the margin to 6-0 in the top of the fourth, Oregon State slowly climbed back into the game with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. With a 6-3 lead, Gonzaga sent closer David Hixson to the mound to seal the deal.

Oregon State was then able to take advantage of a GU fielding error and score six unearned runs to take a 9-6 lead. Gonzaga responded in the top of the ninth scoring three unearned runs, the big shot being a Cave two-run single to right that tied the game. Barden then hit the game winner off Gonzaga relief pitcher Matt Redind (0-2). Stephen Coleman garnered the win for the Beavers improving to 3-1 on the year.

Cave and Rodland each finished the game with three hits for the Zags who will return to action this weekend with a three-game WCC set against San Francisco.
