BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Gonzaga University volleyball team split its two games during Saturday action of the 2002 Holiday Inn Classic at Montana State University. The Bulldogs collected their first win of the season during the morning match with a five-game victory over Florida Atlantic (2-5). GU won the contest 27-30, 30-21, 20-30, 30-22, 18-16. Gonzaga (1-6) was then dispatched in three games by Eastern Michigan (5-1) by scores of 30-15, 30-27 and 30-18. Gonzaga will return to action on Friday when they host Idaho at 7 p.m.
In the first match Gonzaga had three players reach double-digits in kills as the Bulldogs ended a five-match losing skid. Christina Davis had 20 kills and 17 digs as Gonzaga had a .128 attack percentage to win the five-game thriller.
Abby Cullen added 16 kill and 6 blocks while Natasha Kozen chipped in with 14 kills. The Bulldogs were outblocked at the net by a 29-21 count but Florida Atlantic could only muster a .088 team attack percentage.
Abby Miner led FAU with 20 kills and 11 digs while Danyielle Smith added 12 kills.
In the second game Eastern Michigan dominated play with a .357 attack percentage as the Eagles quickly downed Gonzaga. Emily Busch had 12 kills and Shayna Munson added 10 kills for EMU.
Gonzaga was led by Christina Davis with 16 kills while Heather Signor had 17 digs. The Bulldogs combined for a .096 attack percentage and only five blocks in the three game loss.
