Bulldog Men, Women Fifth In WCC Championship

BELMONT, Calif. - Gonzaga University's men's and women's cross country teams each finished fifth at the West Coast Conference Championship on Saturday.

The Bulldog men had 135 points, the Gonzaga women 120 points. The University of Portland won its 27th straight men's title with 19 points, while the Pilot women won their 16th title in the last 21 years with 31 points.

Joe Miller was to top Bulldog finisher for the men, taking sixth in 25:50 over the 8K Crystal Springs Course. Matt Sheeks of Portland took the individual crown in 25:36. Gabe Hayden finished 23rd for the Bulldogs in 27:07.

Jill Semenza was the top Gonzaga women in fourth in 18:16 over the 5K course. She improved on her sixth place finish of a year ago and cut 11 seconds off her 18:27 of last year. Nellie Ballou was 16th for Gonzaga in 19:05, cutting 28 seconds off her 2004 time and 14 places off her 30th place finish of a year ago. Ashlee Vincent of Portland took the women's individual title in 17:59.
