RENO, Nev. - Derek Cheney shot a final-round 72 and Kyle Huus had a 1-under par 71 to lead Gonzaga to a tie for 10th after a tournament-best 291 final round Tuesday at the Wolf Pack Classic men's golf tournament.
Cheney finished tied for 21st and Huus tied for 33rd. Cheney had consistent rounds of 72-74-72 for a 218 while Huus came back from a second-round 76 to finish at 220 with rounds of 73-76-71 over the 7,100-yard, par 72 Wolf Run Golf Club layout.
The Bulldogs finished at 879 and tied with Boise State University in the team chase, two shots behind the University of Idaho.
Wichita State University claimed the team title at 847 for a 2-stroke victory over the University of San Diego. Dustin Garza of WSU successfully defended his individual title at 205 with a pair of 67's on Monday and a closing-round 71 Tuesday for a 3-shot victory over a pair of golfers.
Gonzaga will conclude the fall season at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational in Lihue, Hawai'i Oct. 26-28.
