Greg Moss of Loyola Marymount University sits atop the leaderboard at 135 for a 2-stroke edge over Domingo Jojola of USF.
Huus had 11 birdies over the 36 holes, including the 570-yard par 5 16th and 560-yard par 5 18th in both rounds. He had six bogeys - three in each round. After having three bogeys and a birdie through six holes of round two, he posted played the final 12 holes 6-under par with six birdies and six pars to finish with a 68 better his previous career best round of 69 last season at the Santa Clara Invitational.
Huus is bidding to become only the fourth Gonzaga golfer in WCC Championship history to finish higher than 10th. Jim Yturri tied for sixth in 1983 and Brandon Crick and Trevor Loe tied for ninth in 2007. Four others have finished 10th or tied for 10th.
"Kyle played his final 12 holes 6-under par for the second round to put himself in contention for the individual title," Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray said. "This year marks the first time the WCC individual winner will get an automatic bid to the regional and it would be awesome if he won."
Derek Cheney is tied for 14th at even par 144 after rounds of 71-73. He opened with a 71 as he had four birdies and three bogeys, then survived a double-bogey 7 on the second hole of the second round and played 1-under par golf the rest of the way with three birdies and a pair of bogeys.
Bowdy Ehler, the lone senior for the Bulldogs, had a 1-under 71 on the first round, then had four bogeys and two triple bogeys on his way to a second-round 81 that left him 33rd at 152.
Jason Azzarito is tied for 36th at 154 and Francis Santiago is 39th at 156 to round out the Bulldog contingent.
The Bulldogs are in seventh place at 584 with identical rounds of 292, six strokes behind defending champion University of San Diego in sixth and seven strokes ahead of last-place Saint Mary's College.
"All in all, it was a good day for us," Gray said. "Three of the guys were under par the first round. We started out a little tight in the second round and turned at plus 10. But they dug deep and rallied on the final nine. I thought we had solid play for three of the four nines. I'm proud of the way the guys bounced back and with a great round tomorrow, we can post our best finish ever."
The Bulldogs have never finished better than sixth.
USF, which hasn't won a WCC title since 1990, is in the lead at 565, four shots ahead of LMU and nine ahead of Pepperdine. The Waves have won 14 titles since 1990 and finished tied for second last year.
