Struggles Continue For Men's Golfers At Braveheart Open

BEAUMONT, Calif. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team continued its early-season struggles at the Braveheart Classic, finishing 13th with a 54-hole score of 934.

Tuesday's play started with the continuation of the darkness-halted second round from Monday, followed by the regularly-scheduled final 18 holes.

The University of Arizona won the title at 858 for a 20-stroke margin over Long Beach State University.

Senior Derek Cheney was the top Bulldog, finishing at 227 with rounds of 78-76-73 over the 7,003-yard Oak Valley Golf Club that played to par 72. Tarquin Macmanus of team champion Arizona took medalist honors at 210 following a final-round 66. He opened with back-to-back rounds of 72. Jake Sarnoff of Loyola Marymount University was second at 212.

Cheney's 73 and a final-round 74 by Oliver Grabb were the two best rounds posted by the Bulldogs, who had eight rounds of 80-plus in the tournament, including three rounds of 81 in the final round.

The Bulldogs will host the Bandon Dunes Championship March 11-12 at Pacific Dunes Golf Course in Bandon, Ore.
