SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University baseball team had three players produce multiple hits but the Bulldogs dropped an 8-1 decision to the University of Minnesota Friday in the series opener on the campus of Sacramento State University.
Billy Moon, Tyler Chism and Steven Halcomb each had two hits to lead the Bulldogs (5-7), who were designated as the visiting team. Moon's leadoff single in the first inning extended his hitting streak to four games.
The Bulldogs scored first in the second inning. Cameron Edman led off with a double to left center field and after advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Keegan Acker, Royce Bolinger brought him home on a ground out to the shortstop.
The Gophers (5-5) offense answered back in the third inning. They tied the game after Troy Larson hit a RBI single through the right side and four batters later Kyle Gleason hit a three-run double to right center to give the Gophers a 5-1 lead. Minnesota would later add two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Ryan Carpenter (0-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, in four innings. Minnesota starter TJ Oakes picked up the win after going 6 2/3 innings and allowing one earned run.
The series continues Saturday at 1:05 p.m. Tyler Olson is expected to make his third start of the season.
