Offense Backs Olson's Complete-Game Shutout In Zags Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Gonzaga University's baseball team used 15 hits and a complete-game by Tyler Olson to beat Santa Clara University 9-0 in game two of a three-game West Coast Conference series Saturday.

Olson (6-3), who recorded his first shutout outing of the season, allowed four hits, two walks and struck out six. On the offensive side, Eric Lane and Steven Halcomb both led the Bulldogs with three hits each. Halcomb, Tyler Chism and Billy Moon each drove in a pair of RBI.

The Broncos (15-24, 2-9 WCC) used five pitchers. Starter J.R. Graham (2-3) went six innings and allowed six runs.
Marco Gonzales led off the third inning with a single to right field. After a fly out, he advanced to third on a passed ball. Lane singled to put the runners on the corners and Tyler Chism brought them both in with a two-run double down the left field line. The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead when Moon hit a RBI double to right center field.

Halcomb led off with a single to right center and after reaching third base on sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, Moon singled up the middle to bring in the Bulldogs fourth run.

The Bulldogs would add two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Andy Hunter was hit by the pitcher with one out, Gonzales reached on a fielding error by the Broncos second baseman, Halcomb and Lane followed with back-to-back RBI singles to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead.

In the seventh, Royce Bolinger led off with a double to right center field and Cameron Edman followed with a single to left field. Bolinger would score on Clayton Eslick's sacrifice fly and after Hunter singled to left field, Halcomb hit a two-out single to center field. The Broncos would load the bases on a hit-by-pitch to Lane but got out of the inning with a fly out to centerfield.

In the eighth, the Broncos loaded the bases on two walks and a hit-by-pitch, Gonzales walked in the Bulldogs ninth run.

The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
