SPOKANE, Wash. - Coming off a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Seattle University last Sunday, the Gonzaga University women's tennis team will wrap its four-match homestand this weekend. The Bulldogs will welcome the University of Idaho Friday at noon and on Sunday they will host the University of Northern Colorado at 9 a.m. and Lewis-Clark State College at 2 p.m. All matches will be held at the Spokane Racquet Club.
HEAD COACH D.J. GURULE'S THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS WEEKEND: "We are very excited for our match this weekend. We have had a good week of practice and we know that with each match we will get better and better. We put a lot of work in on doubles and also with our consistency. I know the ladies will be ready to compete tomorrow."
LAST TIME VERSUS THE VANDALS: Gonzaga University took a 4-3 come-from-behind road win over the University of Idaho in the last meeting between the two clubs a season ago. The Bulldogs trailed the Vandals 3-2 but Jackie Tabb and Britta Stime's wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, helped the Bulldogs earn the 4-3 victory. The Bulldogs also got wins from Rika Mehndiratta and Prue Teitzel in singles and the team of Kristina Zauere and Clare Dodge led the effort in doubles.
LAST TIME VERSUS THE BEARS: The last time Gonzaga University and the University of Northern Colorado met in a dual match was in 2010, when the Bulldogs took a 6-1 win over the Bears in Spokane. Kristina Zauere paced the Bulldogs with a three-set win at No. 2 singles. The Zags also had Danielle Farmer win at No. 3, Prue Teitzel win at No. 4, Sophie Lantta win at No. 5 and Jackie Tabb recorded a victory at No. 6 singles. Gonzaga opened the match by claiming two doubles matches to earn the match's first point. The No. 2 doubles team of Dodge and Zauere and the No. 3 pairing of Tabb and Lantta were victorious to give GU the early advantage.
LAST TIME VERSUS THE WARRIORS: Gonzaga University and Lewis-Clark State College's last meeting was at the Spokane Racquet Club a season ago, the Bulldogs posted a 5-2 victory over the Warriors. Rika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles while Clare Dodge and Jackie Tabb earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2. Britta Stime and Gabrielle Verspieren completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at the No. 3 spot. The Bulldogs also had Dodge win at No. 2 singles, Farmer at No. 3, Tabb at No. 4 and Taurie Bjerken at No. 5.
