SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University's Peter Gullickson was named to the All-West Coast Conference men's golf team Friday becoming the fourth Bulldog in school history to earn first-team honors.
Gullickson joins Travis Johnsen, Derek Cheney and Kyle Huus as the only All-WCC first-team picks in Gonzaga history. Johnsen earned the honor in 2011 with Cheney and Huus each earning the accolade in 2009.
Gullickson finished tied for sixth at the WCC Championship Wednesday, the fourth-best individual finish for the Bulldogs. His 54-hole score of 212 (69-73-70) was a WCC Championship school low score, breaking Johnsen's, Cheney's and Huus' school record of 214. Johnsen earned his mark at last year's championship, while Cheney and Huus both put together the score at the 2009 championship.
"Peter has consistently been one of our top players since he's arrived," explained Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray of the sophomore. "He played solid during the fall season but was very frustrated with his game not coming together for most of the spring season. There was only one spot open for someone to play their way onto the All-WCC Team and that person had to play some really solid golf on a challenging course and against a lot of really good players. There are times in golf when you work your tail off and don't see the results for a while. To have it all come together for Peter while setting a school record for lowest individual total at the WCC Championship is pretty special."
Alex Ching of the University of San Diego took home WCC Player of the Year for the second year in a row and his teammate Grant Forrest was named the WCC Freshman of the Year. Saint Mary's College Scott Hardy was voted the Coach of the year.
