SPOKANE, Wash.—The Gonzaga University men's golf team may just be one tournament into their 2014-15 season, but the Zags are already setting program records with a No. 65 ranking in the latest Golfweek rankings.
"It's great to be off to a good start in regards to rankings," said Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray. "It's validation for the team that they can compete at a high level. Knowing that we haven't played our best yet is great motivation moving forward."
The Zags have played one tournament so far in 2014-15, tying for eighth at the Husky Invitational Sept. 22-23. James Fahy and Sean Walsh led the Zags and were tied for 27th, and Will Brueckner and Sean Carlino were both two strokes back and tied for 35th.
The Husky Invitational had four top-25 squads and two more in the 25-50 range. Thanks to the tough field that participated in the annual event at Gold Mountain Golf Club, the Zags have had the 29th toughest schedule in the nation already, according to Golfweek.
That schedule will continue Monday, Oct. 20 and Tuesday, Oct. 21, when the Bulldogs head to the East Coast and take part in The Georgetown Intercollegiate. That tournament will be held at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md.
