SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs controlled the majority of the game in a 2-1 win over Utah Valley on Sunday afternoon at Luger Field.

The Zags took the lead in the 23rd minute when Joe Corner sent a cross in front of the keeper as Christo Michaelson snuck in front for the header goal, his third of the year. The Wolverines tied the match five minutes before half when a goal kick sailed over everyone's head and Diego Serna's one-touch goal found the left slot.

The game-winner came in the 70th minute when Michaelson sent a free kick into the box and Sam Olson headed it into the top shelf for this second of the year. With five minutes left, Jalen Crisler saved a shot from UVU at the goal line that would have tied the match.

"We finished better today around the goal," Gonzaga head coach Einar Thorarinsson said. "Christo Michaelson was in great form and Ben Willis, Jalen Crisler, and Ben White led a great defensive effort."

Willis made three saves in goal for GU and improved to 5-3-1 on the year. The Zags led in shots 14-10 and 9-4 in shots on goal.

The Zags improved to 5-3-1 on the year and will continue the four-match home stand on Saturday at 7 pm against Denver, who advanced to the NCAA Semifinals last year.
