SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team hits the road for the first time this fall as it travels to Stanford, Calif., for the ITA Northwest Regionals, hosted by Stanford at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. It marks the 12
th straight season that Stanford has hosted the event.
The Bulldogs will join ITA's Northwest programs Stanford, California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle and UC Davis in the tournament.
In 2017, doubles duo
Haruna Tsuruta and
Alex Bourguignon equaled the best run in the doubles main draw by a Gonzaga pair, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Doubles Main Draw. In 2015,
Sophie Whittle and then partner Samantha Polayes also reached the quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs also saw ample success in singles play as a school-record and 2017 tournament-best six players advanced to the Round of 32. The Zags went 8-1 against WCC programs on the opening day a season ago.
Four Zags made their 2018 season debut at their own Bulldog Invite Oct. 5-7 at The Stevens Center.

Katie Day won the Bulldog Doubles Draw while Garley and
Haruna Tsuruta met in the finals of the Red Singles Flight. Gonzaga newcomer
Sara Komer will be making her Bulldog debut this weekend at the ITA Northwest Regionals. Whittle also opened the 2018 season in early October at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships in Los Angeles. Whittle won eight matches in six days to become Gonzaga's first-ever ITA National Champion.
The ITA Northwest Regionals begins Friday, Oct. 19 and continues through Tuesday, Oct. 23. Friday's action begins with the first two rounds of singles and the opening slate of doubles. The competition continues Saturday with two more rounds in both singles and doubles play, and the quarterfinals are set for Sunday. Semifinals for both singles and doubles are scheduled for Monday, while championship matches are slated for Tuesday.
