BOISE, Idaho – The Gonzaga men's tennis team picked up two wins on the final day of the Dar Walters Fall Classic, highlighted by
Emilio Moreno's title win in the Blue Singles Main Draw.
"First of all, congratulations to Sophie Whittle," head men's tennis coach
Jonas Piibor said. "She's etched a mark in the Gonzaga history books. We're so excited and proud of Sophie, the women's tennis coaching team and entire staff."
Moreno defeated Montana's Ludvig Hallgren 7-5, 6-2 for his fourth win in three days and his first title of the 2018-19 season. GU's
Ruadhan O'Sullivan also advanced to the final, but fell to Boise State's Wyatt DeMulling 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles play, O'Sullivan paired up with
Sam Feit to defeat Montana's Max Korkh and Oisin Shaffrey 6-4 in the semifinals of the Greg Patton Doubles Main Draw, but the duo fell to Weber State's Michel Van Wyk and Kris Van Shoor 6-3 in the final.
"As the first tournament, it was great to see the guys compete for the first time," Piibor said. "I'm happy for Emilio winning his first final today. We can certainly take a lot of positives away from this weekend, and we will continue working on the areas we need to improve."
