SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's and men's track and field teams are running in the 46th annual Pelluer Invitational Saturday.
Forty-eight Zags will compete on the track at Eastern Washington's Roos Field. GU joins Eastern Washington, Portland State, Whitworth, the Community Colleges of Spokane and a select number of runners from Idaho at the meet.
Ben Hogan opens the meet for the Bulldogs in the men's steeplechase at 1 p.m. Hogan has the fastest seed time at 9:53.11. Katherine Gustafson will represent the Zag women in the steeplechase.
The second event of the day for Gonzaga is the men's 1,500 meters at 1:40 p.m. Eight of the top seed times are owned by Bulldogs. Mason Villarma's 3:53.83 is the second-fastest in the 45-runner field. Aimee Piercy (4:48.03), Claren Fraher (4:50.00), and Elena Slavoski (4:55.00) are seeded fourth, fifth and sixth in the women's 1,500 at 1:50 p.m.
Brandon Pollard enters the men's 800 meters with the best seed time at 1:52.90. The event starts at 3:10 p.m. In the women's 800 meters at 3:20 p.m., GU has seven of the Top-10 seed times led by Claire Gillett's 2:22.97 second-best time.
At 4:15 p.m., Sumner Goodwin and Troy Fraley enter the men's 5,000 meters with best seed times. Caroline McCarthy runs for the GU women in the 5,000 at 4:35 p.m.
Currently, Kellen Manley ranks 13th in the West Region, and 14th in the nation, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:51.26. Sammy Truax is 17th in the region at 8:55.95, while Alex Heffelfinger is 22nd at 8:56.97. Jordan Thurston ranks 36th in the region in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 35:50.69.
