HOUSTON, Texas — Former Gonzaga baseball standout Taylor Jones was recalled by the Houston Astros on Saturday, joining the active roster and available for Sunday's game, team officials announced.
Jones joins collegiate teammate Brandon Bailey on the Astros active roster, putting two Zag alums among the 30 active players for Houston. The Astros play the third of a four-game series at home against the Mariners on Sunday at 11:10 a.m. PT/1:10 p.m. CT.
Jones was selected 577th overall in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Astros. He tied the program record with 27 doubles during his senior season, which ranked in the top five in the country. Jones finished second on the team with a .332 batting average and third with a .509 slugging mark while leading the everyday starters in fielding at .992. The Kent, Wash., native also earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team and is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.
