SAN MATEO, Calif. – Gonzaga's
Demitrius Kigeya was named Preseason All-West Coast Conference, and the Bulldogs were selected fifth in the league's annual poll released Friday.
The preseason poll and All-WCC team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
Kigeya, a junior forward from Madison, Wis., helped ignite the GU offense last season with a team-high 35 overall shots and 12 on goal, while scoring three goals and gathering two assists to rank second on the team with eight points. He was named All-Conference Second Team following the season, after being tabbed All-WCC Freshman Team in 2018.
Loyola Marymount placed a conference-high three players on the 2020-21 All-West Coast Conference Preseason Spring Men's Soccer Team and was picked to finish first in the poll.
The Lions garnered three first-place votes and 45 total points while Saint Mary's – the 2019 WCC champion – collected four first-place votes and 42 points. Saint Mary's and LMU both earned bids to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Gaels advanced to the second round while LMU fell in the first round.
Portland came in third in the preseason poll with 35 points while San Diego picked up the remaining first-place vote and totaled 34 points. The second half of the poll included Gonzaga (20), Pacific (19), Santa Clara (19) and San Francisco (10).
