CONCORD, Calif. — Gonzaga women's cross country put its West Coast Conference rivals on notice Friday morning at Newhall Community Park, taking second place overall for its best finish since 2015 with All-WCC performances from Kristen Garcia (7th, 20:30.6) and Elisabeth Danis (10th, 20:51.4).

The Zags finished with 64 points for second behind BYU, which placed six runners in the top ten for its fourth straight team win. The Zags' 51-second spread was the second-fastest of the day behind the Cougar's 0:39 mark, with three GU more runners in the top 20 behind Garcia and Danis.

Behind Garcia's best-ever finish at WCC's and Danis' dominant debut, Alicia Anderson (21:07.8) and Rosina Machu (21:14.5) finished 16th and 17th, respectively, and Sadie Tuckwood crossed the finish line 20th with a time of 21:22.3. Behind them, Liz Hogan (32nd, 22:08.0), Brittney Hansen (33rd, 22:08.7), Makenna Edwards (37th, 22:21.5), Paxton DePoe (42nd, 22:34.6) and Alyssa Bienfang (43rd, 22:35.1) ensured that the entire GU squad finished in the top 50.

"Incredible day for our program," said Head Women's Coach Jake Stewart. "We felt like if we ran the race plan we put together second was attainable. And to go out and execute, I'm so proud of this team."

"We have a group of ladies that really believe in themselves, believe in what we're trying to accomplish and today was a result of that."
