SPOKANE, Wash. – The Zags competed in day two of the Gonzaga Invitational with two Zags moving onto their bracket finals tomorrow. All six Zags that competed yesterday played in the winner's bracket after winning their opening matches.
 
In the second round of the red bracket, freshman Caroline Wernli defeated Freia Lawrence of Montana State, 5-7, 6-0 [10-3].  Sophomore Tiegan Aitken took on Andrea Cuquerella of Montana State, falling in a tough fought battle, 7-6(4), 4-6, [10-4]. In the blue draw, senior Adrianna Sosnowska defeated Jennifer Kida of Eastern Washington, 7-5, 6-1 while. Junior Cate Broerman took down Kelly Leung of Washington 6-4, 6-4. In the purple bracket, sophomore Kianna Oda played a match that lasted almost three hours, as she took down Misaki Kobayashi of Oregon, 6-7(4), 6-4, [12-10]. Junior Frederikke Svarre battled hard, but fell to Katherine Jhang of Idaho, 7-6(5), 4-6, [10-8].
 
In the semifinal matches, Cate Broerman took on Sally Pethybridge of Portland, downing her 7-6(3), 6-2. She will play Iva Zelic of Portland, the No. 1 seed in the bracket. Adrianna Sosnowska took on Zelic in her semifinal match, falling in a tough fought battle, 4-6, 6-3 [10-7]. In the purple bracket, Kianna Oda fought back to take down the two seed Tara Chilton of Washington, 1-6, 6-4 [10-8]. In the red draw, Caroline Wernli fell to Rimona Rouf, 6-1, 6-2.
 
In the consolation bracket, Frederikke Svarre defeated Jazmin Lerman of Montana State, 6-3, 6-1. Tiegan Aitken defeated Mia Ljubas of Oregon, 4-6, 6-3, [10-5].
 
TOMORROW
In the singles bracket, Cate Broerman will take on Iva Zelic of Portland at 11 .am. Kianna Oda will go against the one seed Zoey Weil of Washington, also starting at 11 a.m.
 
In the doubles draw, Broerman and Sosnowska will take on Misaki Kobayashi and Uxia Martinez Moral of Oregon at 8 a.m. Wernli and Svarre will go against Rimona Rouf, and Jana Tanevska of Portland also starting at 8 a.m. Aitken and Oda will go against Ashley Chang and Yolanda Lin of Washington, starting at 8 a.m.
