SPOKANE, Wash- The Gonzaga women's tennis team won both their matches Saturday, sweeping both Idaho and Seattle inside the Stevens Center. The Zags opened the day with a 7-0 win over the Vandals and closed the day with a 4-0 sweep of the Redhawks. GU improves to 8-3 on the season with the victories.

The Bulldogs swept their first match against Idaho, defeating th Vandals 7-0. The team opened with a 6-2 win at No. 2 as
Kate Ketels and
Haruna Tsuruta defeated Idaho's Maggie Chen and Kathering Jhang.
Taylor Gruber and
Kianna Oda clinched the doubles point for the Zags with a 6-4 win against the Vandals on court three.

In singles play, Tsuruta was first to finish for Gonzaga on court four, winning 6-3, 6-0 against Marta Magalhaes. Gonzaga's
Hannah Jones was next to finish on court 6, defeating Saffron Dowse 6-3, 6-2.
Cate Broerman at No. 3 singles, solidified the win with a final score of 6-3, 6-2 against Vandal's Jhang.

While the Bulldogs had already taken the match 4-0, courts 1, 2, and 5 played their matches out. Gruber at No. 5 was first to finish, winning 6-3, 6-4 against Chen. Courts 1 and 2 both extended to three sets, with each ending in victories for the Zags. Ketels finished first of the two, winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 against Huchet and Sosnowska finished close after, defeating Laura Spataro 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Later in the day, Gonzaga competed against Seattle and won 4-0. The team dominated doubles, but this time it was Gruber and Oda who finished first by defeating Jillian Rasmussen and Alisa Sabotic 6-1 at No. 3. Ketels and Tsuruta were next to finish on court 2, winning 6-2 against Jade Lancaster and Hannah Grossman.

The Bulldogs made quick work of singles. Ketels was first to finish on court one, winning 6-2, 6-0 against Peggy Rooke. Tsuruta also finished quickly in singles defeating Grossman 6-1, 6-1. On court 5, Gruber had a clean sweep in both sets 6-0, 6-0 against Rasmussen to get the Zags their fourth and final point of the match.

"Overall, we had a very solid performance today," said Assistant Coach
Natalie Pluskota-Hamberg. "It was great to get a good amount of matches in, and we are grateful for that opportunity. We look forward to spring break and getting some matches on the road."
