MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team wrapped up the first fall tournament of the season at the Gopher Invitational. The next tournament for the Zags is the ITA Regionals, which takes place Oct. 22 – 26.
SINGLES
Junior
Cate Broerman went 2-1 in the three-day tournament. In the final day, she fell in three sets over Minnesota's Vasiliki Karvouni. In the first set, Broerman fell 6-7 (1). The second set was another close tiebreaker, with Broerman coming out on top, 7-6 (9). In the third set, Broerman fell, 2-6.
Graduate
Frederikke Svarre went 2-1 on the weekend with another win today. Svarre also had a three-set battle over Minnesota's Mario Rizzolo. In the first set, Svarre won, 6-4, but fell, 4-6, in the second. In the third, she came out on top, 6-3.
Junior
Jenna Sloan also went 2-1 in the tournament with a victory today over South Dakota's Natalie Kmoskova. Sloan won in straight-sets, 6-3, in both. Freshman
Caroline Wernli was another Zag who went 2-1 throughout the three days, with a win over USD's Berta Girbau today. She won, 6-4, in the first set and, 6-3, in the second.
Junior
Maria Frampton fell in a three-set match, her third of the weekend. She went against USD's Eesha Varma and won the first set, 6-3. In the next sets, Frampton fell, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore
Kianna Oda also went 2-1 on the weekend for Gonzaga. In today's match, Minnesota's Ekin Ercetin defeated Oda, 6-4, 6-2.
DOUBLES
Svarre and Oda paired up for the doubles round and defeated Drake, 6-4.
Oda also competed with Broerman and went against Minnesota. The two fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3). Sophomore
Tiegan Aitken and Sloan paired up and fell to Minnesota, 6-2. Wernli and Frampton also teamed up and fell to Drake, 6-3.
